The present work proposes to deal with the intersections between the regulation of intellectual property rights (IP) and the questions pertinent to the protection of the patrimonial collections of museums, seen in a broad way, without attempting to cover exceptional cases. It will seek to identify the Brazilian regulatory frameworks, establishing comparisons with other rules and experiences of foreign museums. It will confront the fundamentals of IP protection with the teleology of museum collections, understanding the museums as spaces for cultural preservation and dissemination, in a contemporary era of facilitated dissemination of information by technologies. Method: deductive and bibliographic research.
